Eat Mor Chikin!!

On July 12 We attended the "Cow Appreciation Day" at Chick-fil-A. It was our third, and while in the past we have often made an appearance breakfast, lunch, and dinner-this time we controlled ourselves to be content with Chic-fil-A for dinner alone. We scrambled around to put together cow costumes. I looked up how to make black homemade face paint-it turned out slightly purple, but we will do most anything for the deliciousness that is Chic-fil-A. Paul printed off cow noses from work. When we put it all together I think we made a pretty passable little cow herd. Here is us consuming our reward.
Someone took a slightly blurry pic of us, but you get the idea. Look at all that food!!

That's my little Jonah cow.

Look how happy they are to get their kid's meals.

That's the life right there. A nugget in each little hoove.
Now for the individual close-ups:
Can't stop eating....

Lookin' good little cow

Silly cow

This momma cow was very thankful to not have to cook

Best for last. I can't look at this without cracking up.
It's always been such a fun time! We want to see you there next year!

The Chicken or the Egg

What came first? The chicken or the egg? For us it was the chicken. At first they were cute peeping little fuzzballs, that grew into awkward ugly little teenagers, that grew into hens that looked like they really should contribute something to the household but did not. Well in July, they redeemed themselves. Yes we got our first egg!!!
L to R: Oriana, Robot, Nick Fury, and Scriabin

Jonah with his beloved "Nick Furry" the barred rock

What a cutie. (Jonah, not the chicken)
Jude and his baby "Oriana"

This is Idelette's chicken, Robot. Robot has yet to contribute.
The kids were ecstatic! (So were Paul and I)

The beauty. We think it was Oriana or Nick's
It was a happy day! In fact my excitement was so renewed that I immediately got on Craigslist to get a few more chickens. Within the week we added Chocolate Chip and Nasgul to our little flock. We now get about 3 eggs a day and the excitement of getting them hasn't faded. Hopefully the other 3 chickens will start laying soon.

Jude Did Learn How to Read in 100 (not so) Easy Lessons

My sweet Jude has been learning how to read since he was about three. We used the "Teach Your Child How to Read in 100 Easy Lessons" curriculum. We love it by the way and had great success with Jonah a couple years earlier. Because of his very inconsistent, on again off again momma. After many grueling months, and some tears (shed from both of us), at the still young age of 4, however, Jude completed his book. We planned on going for a date when he was finished. We had a great time!
I love this kid sooooo much!

Love that smile. Look at that icecream!!

Having fun...

Being silly....

Taking in the atmosphere....

Take a big bite Jude!

You too Mom!

I have to tell you, this kid loves dates. Who doesn't? He asks for them regularly, and even will tell us the dates he has planned for his future wife. Some of the conversation of the night is below, because I just don't ever want to forget. God has wired my little boy to be a romantic, who values marriage, and family and already know he wants to be a dad and husband someday.

  • "Mom, lets go on a date. A date is just You and Me, and some food"
  • "Jude, when you grow up what will you do on a date with your wife?"  Jude, "I'll take her to the zoo to look at animals. And then I will probably get her some food."
  • "Mom, a date is just for one boy and one girl, together. two girls hanging out is called girl bonding time." (I don't know where he got that from).
  • When I tried to open the door for him he moved me out of the way to hold it for me saying "Mom, you never hold the door, that is the man's job".
I need to spend a lot more time praying for God's protection and shaping of Jude's future wife, and the shaping and protection of Jude himself. I have to say that whoever he ends up with will be a blessed girl and will be treated like a princess. (Though I know that God is faithful, and that Jude will be blessed to have her as well).

Posting about events that happened around 3 months ago will probably be pretty standard from this blogger. So let's go back in time to...oh...Memorial Day.
